What Is TennCare
TennCare is Tennessee’s Medicaid system. It covers more than 1.5 million Tennesseeans.
TennCare Eligibility
To be eligible for TennCare, you must meet income and immigration status requirements as well as fit into a category that TennCare covers. The most common categories are children, parents, pregnant women and some people who are disabled. There are sometimes additional eligibility requirements and the income limits are different for each category. For a complete screening to see if you are eligible, call us at 866-475-7879
What Is CoverKids
CoverKids is Tennessee’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). It covers children and pregnant women.
Although household information may be used to determine eligibility for TennCare or CoverKids, each person’s eligibility is separate. This means that parents can apply for their children without applying for themselves, or that children in the same household might be enrolled in different programs.
The application process is the same for TennCare and CoverKids.
In 2018 an estimated 55,719 children were eligible for TennCare or CoverKids but were not enrolled.
